Contemporary dance is a genre of dance that has become popular in the 20th century. It is a fusion of modern, ballet, and jazz. Contemporary uses the strong controlled legwork of ballet, the contract and release of modern, along with the rhythm, speed , and direction changes that both jazz and modern entails. Even though contemporary is a fusion of these other genres it does not stick to their strict techniques and movements. Contemporary also employs floor work, fall and recovery, partner work, and improvisation. The contemporary dance genre is about self-expression, abstract ideas, storytelling, and freedom.
In this class we will be exploring all the wonderful aspects of this genre. The dancers will be learning the foundation of this technique. They will also learn how to build trust with one another and themselves while exploring movement on the floor and partnering with each other. As well as grow in the confidence in improvisation.
